10/4/2018 4 Comments MY TOP 5 BODYPOSIPANDA POSTS
Bodyposipanda is the name Megan Jayne Crabbe goes by on the interwebs. It is an ode to body positivity. Unless you've been living under a rock, you have heard of body positivity by now. In a nutshell, body positivity is learning to love your body wholesomely. Megan herself had to learn this the hard way, having battled both anorexia nervosa and binge eating disorder. She now dedicates her life to reaching out to other people who have been through eating disorders like herself, as well as people who have a hard time loving the bodies they are in. She has written a book titled Body Positive Power: How to stop dieting, make peace with your body and live. She also writes a column on The Unedit. Without further ado, here are 5 of my favourite Bodyposipanda posts.
1. This Instagram post
The post in itself is pretty much self-explanatory, and there is little I can think of to add to it. The post says everything it needs to say.
2. Her response to Kim Kardashian's appetite-suppressing lollipops
We all remember that Kim K ad where she decided to advertise appetite-suppressing lollipops. To say it did not go down well would be an understatement. The saga behind the diet industry as a whole has been debunked several times, but it seems like this industry is going nowhere and it keeps coming up with 'new and innovative' ways to get their way. So it really wasn't surprising that those lollipops came into play, and it won't be surprising when something else comes up. To get an idea on why this is, read Megan's article about it here.
3. Her advice on 'bouncing back' after pregnacy
There is a lot pressure to get back that 'pre-pregnancy bod' after giving birth. Even Beyonce recently addressed it in her September Vogue interview because, apparently, that's a question she has to answer to; why she hasn't gotten her pre-pregnancy body back yet. And it's not just Beyonce, it's tons of women out here. I believe getting the pre-partum body is called the 'snap back'. Apparently, women should always look 'snatched'. Um... the changes that the body goes through during pregnancy are monumental and giving birth is a major medical event. The last thing someone needs after giving birth is some fool pressuring them to 'snap back'. Well, Megan had something to say about that. Read her advice to people struggling to feel confident in their post-partum bodies here.
4. This Instagram post
This post is also quite self-explanatory. Most body positivity posts tend to focus on girls/women, and that's because it's mostly girls/women doing their own advocacy. Where are the boys/men? Why are they not doing their own advocacy? MRAs, instead of bashing women online and making fun of male victims of sexual abuse like you made fun of Terry Crews, guess what you could be doing? You could be doing male body positivity. You could be standing with male victims of sexual abuse in the #MeToo movement. You could be speaking up for male victims of domestic violence. You could be joining forces with feminism, instead, you have positioned yourself as a silencing movement; you've positioned yourself as enablers of all the wrong things. Why don't you want to put the work in? Women have always held you up, even feminism fights for men too, but that can only take you so far. But that's a topic for another day.
5. One thing I really got wrong about body positivity
In 'One Thing I really Got Wrong About Body Body Positivity', Megan chronicles how she came to know that even though fat people and thin people do face body image issues, the way fat people and thin people are viewed by the world is totally different, hence the phenomenons 'thin privilege' and 'fat prejudice'. She writes, "... A little later on I mentioned her post in a post of my own, saying something along the lines of 'OF COURSE a thin person and a fat person can be friends, because, like, we all go through the same things with our bodies no matter what size we are'. And that right there, is where I was so spectacularly wrong." Read Megan's realization here.

Loved this blog post. I'm a "fat" girl myself and I get so frustrated when I try to explain to people that body positivity is about being comfortable in your skin and being treated like any other human being!! This writer sounds dope and I'll check her out :)
