4/7/2023 ABOUT THE MALINDI ABORTION RULINGOn 24th March 2022, the High Court of Kenya in Malindi affirmed the right to abortion as guaranteed under the Constitution and directed Parliament to enact a public policy framework on the matter. The ruling is referred to in short as the "Malindi ruling", and it was made in petition E009 of 2020 in the case of PAK and Salim Mohammed vs the Attorney General and 3 others where a teenager (PAK), who was in form 2 at the time, suffered a miscarriage and had to have an emergency manual vacuum evacuation performed to save her life. After the procedure was performed, plain-clothed police officers stormed the hospital acting on "intelligence" and arrested PAK (who was still recovering), the healthcare professionals who performed the life-saving procedure, and two cleaners. They also confiscated PAK's treatment records. PAK was then forced to undergo a medical examination to prove she'd had an abortion, and she was charged with procuring an abortion contrary to section 159 of the Penal Code. The healthcare professionals were charged with assisting her with the "crime" as well as procuring drugs for the "crime". This is a review of the ruling and the events surrounding the ruling.

She has taken the country by storm with her soulful vocals and talent for songwriting. Her singing career, which she started as a pre-teen, has allowed her to tour the world and granted her a scholarship to one of the most prestigious and exclusive schools in Kenya, Brookhouse School. After having to put her career on hold for a while to finish school, she recently made her comeback with Never Let You Go and Where Have You Been. I had the opportunity to interview her on her journey. Here she is, in her own words.

6/13/2019 0 Comments WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT EBOLAKenya is on high alert after 3 Ebola cases were confirmed in neighbouring Uganda. This is feared to be a sign that Ebola is spreading from DRC to neighbouring countries. Of the 3 confirmed cases, 2 of the patients died and one was repatriated, at their request, to DRC; so Uganda no longer has any confirmed Ebola cases. However, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't be concerned. Ebola is very much a public health issue, and key to beating the outbreak is educating the public about the disease. So here's what you need to know about Ebola.
